In fig the blue boundary is the one with the pavement and the orange one is the boundary of the swimming pool.

let side of pool = x

side of pool + boundary = x+1 (as 0.5 increases on both sides)

given , total area - area of pool = 49

(x+1)^2 - (x)^2 = 49

2x +1= 49

2x= 48

x = 24

area of pool = x^2 = 576
