t = 5 s

acceleration \:  =  \frac{v - u}{t}

 \:  \frac{0 - 50 \: ms {}^{ - 1} }{5s}

 \:  =  - 10 \: ms { }^{ - 2}

Hence , retardation = 10 m/s²
