Answer:

Let the cost of pencil be X

Therefore , ATQ

cost of pen =8x

ATQ:

5x + 2 × 8x = 126

5x + 16x = 126

21x = 126

x = 126/21

x = 6

Therefore cost of pencil = x = Rs 6

cost of pen = 8x = Rs 8 × 6 = Rs 48

Step-by-step explanation:

let the cost of pencil be x and cost of pen be y

according to first condition,

8x=y ------(1)

according to second condition,

5x+2y=126

substitute value of y from equation 1,

5x+16x=126

21x=126

x=6

put x=6 in eq.(1)

y =48

cost of a pencil is Rs.6

and cost of a pen is Rs.48
