Share of the boy:

  • Given number of days taken by the person to do the work = 24 days =  (P).
  • Let the number of days taken by the boy to do the work = x days = (B).
  • Given that both of them together will take 15 days to complete the work.
  • As, number of days taken is directly proportional to the work done,
  • 1/P + 1/B = 1/15
  • 1/24 + 1/x = 1/15
  • 1/x = 1/15 - 1/24 = 9/360 = 1/40

Thus the number of days taken by the boy is 40 days.

  • To find the share of the boy;

We know that efficiency is inversely proportional to the number of days taken,

  • (efficiency of the person) : (efficiency of the boy) = (no. of days taken by the boy) : (no. of days taken by the person)
  • (efficiency of the person) : (efficiency of the boy) = (40) : (24) = 5:3

Thus the share of the boy is (3/8 * 1728) rupees = Rs. 648.
