a person can throw a particle to maximum height of hm vertically then the maximum distance up to which he can throw the partial horizontally.

It is a very important concept...so i will advise you to learn it as it is...

Let,

*****I can throw to x distance in horizontal.

Then in vertical direction i can throw half of this i.e. x/2******

Hope you know that horizontal distance is called range

(denoted by -R ) ...i have used it in attachement.
