Answer: \frac{x}{y} =\frac{31}{16}

Step-by-step explanation:

As let, he has initially x rupees.

Let him spend y rupees at each mass.

As to the question,

At the first mall, he spends y, so he has now x-y rupees.

As it gets doubled ∴ he has 2(x-y)

At the second mall, he spent y

now he has 2(x-y)-y

it gets doubled, so he has 2(2(x-y)

At the third mall, he spends y

now he has 2(2(x-y)-y)-y

So it gets doubled, so he has =2(2(2(x-y)-y)-y).

So now at the fourth mall, he spent y,

now he has 2(2(2(x-y)-y)-y)-y)

As if it gets doubled, so he has 2(2(2(2(x-y)-y)-y)-y)

At the fifth mall, he spends y

now he has 2(2(2(2(x-y)-y)-y)-y)-y)

but now he has no money,

∴ 2(2(2(2(x-y)-y)-y)-y)-y=0

  2(2(2(2x-3y)-y)-y)-y)=0

  2(2(4x-7y)-y)-y=0

  2(8x+15y)-y=0

  16x-31y==n

   \frac{x}{y} =\frac{31}{16}

As the ratio of money he had had, the money he spent at each mass.

So he may have 3100  rupees and beginning and may spend 31, 16.
