A person holds a block weighing 2kg between his hands & keeps it from falling down by pressing
it with his hands. If the force exerted by each hand horizontally is 50N, the
co-efficient of friction between the hand & the block is (g=10ms-?)
1) 0.2
2) 0.4
3) 0.1
4) 0.5

Answer:

1) 0.2

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that the the force applied by the man horizontally on the block is = 50 N

Also,

Mass of the block = 2kg

Now,

We know that Force of friction is = μN

where, N = Normal force on the block

So,

Normal force, N = 50 N

So,

as the block is pressed from the two sides therefore, the force of friction is acting on the two surfaces of the block.

So we can say that,

μN + μN = mg

2μN = mg

2μ(50) = 2(10)

μ = 20/100

μ = 0.2

Therefore, the value of the co-efficient of the friction is 0.2
