A person is in open space during a thunderstorm with no shelter (not even a tree) available nearby. Describe the safe position which he should take to protect himself from lightning. Why is this position considered safe?

Explanation:

Static electric charge is induced on tall buildings due to the moving clouds. The tall buildings, pointed objects and sole trees tend to get closer to the electric charge from the moving clouds and are thus struck by lightening often.  

If you happen to be outside during a thunderstorm and there is no shelter available, then you must stay away from all trees, poles or other metal objects. You must not lie on the ground.

You should squat low on the ground with your hands placed on the knees and your head should be between the hands. This position will make us the smallest target with least possibility to be struck by lightening.
