Answer:

50 min

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Speed of man = 10 km/hr

After every kilometer he take rest for = 5 min

Calculation:

Time to cover 1 km distance = 1/10 × 60 = 6 min

Time to cover 5 km distance if the person takes rest for 5 min every kilometer ⇒

⇒ 1 km + 5 min + 1 km + 5 min + 1 km + 5 min + 1 km + 5 min + 1 km

⇒ 6 min + 5 min + 6 min + 5 min + 6 min + 5 min + 6 min + 5 min + 6 min

⇒ 50 min

Other method:

Time to cover 5 km distance = 5/10 × 60 = 30 min

The person takes rest for four times to cover 5 km so

Rest time = 5 × 4 = 20 min

∴ Required time = 30 min + 20 min = 50 min

Answer: 1620m or 1.620km

We can substitute the value Speed and Time given in the question in the speed formula to find the distance covered...

Speed = 10 km/hrs

Time = 10 minutes

But before we substitute them, we have to convert them into their standard units. The standard unit of speed is m/s and the standard unit of time is seconds. So to convert a unit from km/hrs to m/s, we have to multiply the digit by 1000/3600. And to convert minutes to seconds, we have to multiply the digit by 60.

Speed = 10 x 1000/3600

           = 1 x 1000/360

           = 100/36

           = 2.7 m/s  (Approx)

Time = 10 x 60

         = 600

Now we can substitute,

Speed = Distance/Time

2.7 = Distance/600

Distance/600 = 2.7

Distance = 2.7 x 600

               = 1620m

So the distance he covers in 10 minutes is 1620m

If you want the distance in km, then we can divide it by 1000 to get 1.620km
