Let the person has a monthly salary as X.

Since he spent 40% of his salary on house rent

House rent = 40% of X = 40*X/100 = 0.4X

Now his remaining salary after house rent is monthly salary minus the house rent.

Remaining Salary after house rent = X - 0.4 X =0.6X

Now it's provided that he used 30% of his remaining salary on food

Salary used for food =

30% of 0.6X = 30 *0.6X/100 =0.18X

percentage of salary he is left with = X -0.58X =0.42X

Therefore we get,

Salary used for rent = 0.4X

Salary used for food = 0.18X

Also, it's given that he is left with ₹3591 after all the expenditure.

From the calculation above we realise that the person is left with 42% of X i.e. 0.42X which is equal to ₹3591

Putting this in equation

0.42X =3591

X= 3591/0.42 =₹8550

Hence the total salary of person is ₹8550.
