Hi there,

Pen cost Rs 7 each

Pencil cost Rs.3 each

Total number of things = 108

The person spent Rs 564

No . of pens = x( let)

No of pencils = y(let)

x + y = 108......(1)

7x + 3y = 564.....(2)

Multiply (1) by 7

7x + 7y = 756

7x + 3y = 564

Now,Subtract (2) from (1)

4y = 192

y = 48

Substitute y = 48

into Equation (1)

x + y = 108

x + 48 = 108

x = 108 = 48

x = 60.

Therefore:

48 pencils were bought

60 pens were bought.

Hope this helps:
