Given,

Total distance = 340 km

Total time = 8 hours

Speed of car = 50 km/h

Speed of train = 38 km/h

To find,

Travelling time in the train.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical formula process.

Let, the travelling time in the train = x hours

So, the travelling time in the car = (8-x) hours

Distance covered by the train = 38 × x = 38x km

Distance covered by the car = (8-x) × 50 = 400-50x km

According to the data mentioned in the question,

38x+400-50x = 340

400-12x = 340

-12x = -60

x = 5

Hence, the travelling time of train is 5 hours.
