Let the distances be 2x km

( for the first part) and x km ( for second part)

so, the total distance traveled ( s) = 2x km + x km = 3x km

Now,

Time taken to travelled the first part. ( t1) = 2xkm/30 km h^-1

= x/15 h

And , time taken to travell the second part ( t2) = x km/40 kmh^-1

= x/40 h

Total time taken = t1 + t2

= ( x/15+x/40) h

= 11x/120

We have,

Average speed= total distance traveled/ total time taken

= S/ t1+t2

= 3x km/(11x/120) h

= 360/11 kmh^-1

= 32.72 h km h^-1 ( Approx).......
