The distance between the final and starting positions is 5 km exactly towards south direction.

It is because a person walked twenty kilometers towards east and turned toward south and walked 10 km.

He traveled 35 km towards west and then 5 km towards north.

Again he walked 15 km towards east.

So, we can simply add 10+15 and we get 25.

Finally, we can get 25 – 20 = 5 km.
