Question :- A person walks on the escalator which is coming down and reaches the bottom in 30 seconds taking 26 steps. The next time he walks a bit faster and takes 34 steps before reaching the bottom. If it had taken him only 18 seconds, how many steps are there on the escalator ?

Solution :-

given that,

→ the person reachers the bottom in 30 seconds taking = 26 steps.

and,

→ if he walks a bit faster and takes 34 steps before reaching the bottom , it takes him = 18 seconds.

So,

→ Difference between steps in both cases = 34 - 26 = 8 steps.

→ Difference between time period = 30 - 18 = 12 seconds.

Therefore, we can say that,

→ in 8 steps he takes = 12 seconds .

Than,

→ in 1 step he take = (12/8) = 1.5 seconds.

Hence,

Total steps in the escalator = 26 + (steps he takes in 30 seconds) = 26 + (30 * 1.5) = 26 + 20 = 46 steps (Ans.)

46 steps are there on the escalator .
