A pharmacist found that he received times as many prescriptions for pain killers as he did for 5 tranquilizers. If on a certain day he received 72 prescriptions, then find the number of prescriptions for both types.

let the prescriptions  for traquizers, be x

∴ nos of prescriptions for pain killers=7/5*x =7x/5

ATP

⇒ x + 7x/5 =72

⇒ 5x +7x =72 *5

⇒ 5x +7x =360

⇒ 12x =360

⇒ x =360/12 =30  prescriptions  for traquizers,

∴no. of prescription received for the pain killers  =7x/5  =7*30/5 =7*6=42 Ans
