Ratio of Length : Width = 32 : 12 (Given)

Simplify by dividing by 4:

Ratio of Length : Width = 8 : 3

Define x:

Let x be the constant ratio

Ratio of Length : Width = 8x : 3x

Solve x:

8x = 56

x = 7

Find the width:

width = 3x = 3(7) = 21 cm

Answer: The width is 21 cm

================================================

ALTERNATIVE METHOD:

 \dfrac{\text{Length 1}} {\text{Width 1}}= \dfrac{\text{Length 2}} {\text{Width 2}}

 \dfrac{\text{32}}{\text{12}}= \dfrac{\text{56} }{\text{Width2}}

 32 \times \text{Width}= 12 \times 56

 32 \times \text{Width}= 672

 \text{Width}= 21
