A piece of chalk can be broken into small particles by Hammering but a piece of iron cannot be broken into small particles by hammering. Which characteristic of particles of matter is illustrated by this observation

Both the Iron and chalk are Solids !

They have a property of Rigidity ( tendency of a substance to maintain its stiffness, hardness, and shape )

Both the chalk and iron follow this property!

BUT ,

Here the real concept is about the FORCE OF ATTRACTION!

As we know , each matter is made of particles

There is a huge force of attractions between the particles of iron then comparing to that of chalk !

So the chalk easy gets into pieces by hammering while the Iron didn't!
