a piece of cloth costs rs200 .if the piece were 5m longer and each meter of cloth cost rs2 less ,the cost would have remained unchanged.how long is the piece and what is the orignal rate per meter?

and cost of cloth be y

According to Question

x*y = 200 .....(1)
y = 200/x. ....(2)

Now,

(x+5)*(y-2) = 200 ....(3)

from equation 2

(x+5)*(200/x -2) = 200

on simplifying the equation we get

x^2 + 5x -500 = 0

now by middle term splitting

x^2 + 25x - 20x -500=0

x(x+25) -20(x+25)=0

=> x = -25 , 20

now x= 20 is considered

put value of x in eq(2)

and we get y = 200/20

therefore y = 10....

=> length = 20 , cost = 10..... Here is your answer...
