Answer: 16m

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Given:- Cost of copper wire = Rs.240
  • Let the length of copper wire be n meters.
  • Now according to question, if the length of wire is 4 meters longer which means (n+4) m.
  • And cost of per meter is Rs.3 less which  means Rs \ (\frac{240}{n}-3 )
  • Solution:

   (n+4) \ (\frac{240}{n}-3 )= 240

240-3n+\frac{960}{n}-12=240

3n+12=\frac{960}{n}

3n^{2} +12n-960=0

On solving we get,

n=16,-20

So, the original length of the copper wire was 16 meters.

  • Hence, the required answer is 16m.
