A piece of iron when placed in water sinks but a boat made up of iron floats in water.Explain why.

A piece of Iron sinks in water because it's average density is more than average density of water.
Whereas a boat made of iron floats on water because it displaces only that amounts of water which is equal to its own weight.Due to this buoyant force acts on it and hence makes it afloat.
