This proverb is meant to motivate the children who did hard work but could not succeed in the exam. Getting marks is not important. Learning is important. We should always starve to learn something or other.

Also, we should work hard to do our exams. If we have proper learning of the subject we are interested in we can choose the career we like. We can decide on our profession and we can choose our future.
