total length of wire =7/8 m
after broken into two pieces, one piece length=1/4m
let length of other piece=x

now x+1/4 =7/8m
x=7/8-1/4
after taking LCM we get:-
x=(7-2)/8
x=5/8 m

hence the other piece will be 5/8 m long.

Given :

A piece of wire 7/8 metre long broke into two pieces. One piece was 1/4 metre long.

To Find :

One piece was 1/4 metre long

Solution:

Total length of wire =\frac{7}{8} m

Wire is divided into two pices

Length of one piece = \frac{1}{4} m

Length of other piece =\frac{7}{8}-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{7-2}{8}=\frac{5}{8}

Hence The length of other piece is 5/8 m
