total length of wire =7/8 m
after broken into two pieces, one piece length=1/4m
let length of other piece=x
now x+1/4 =7/8m
x=7/8-1/4
after taking LCM we get:-
x=(7-2)/8
x=5/8 m
hence the other piece will be 5/8 m long.
