A pitcher throws his fastball horizontally 42.1 m per sec . how far does it drop before crossing plate , 18.3 m away​

find the time it takes to reach the plate

s = so + vt

18.3 = 0 + 42.1 * t

t = 18.3/42.1 = 0.43s

find distance it traveled in the y direction, initial velocity in y is 0 since it was thrown horizontally

sy = so + vt - gt²/2

sy = 0 + 0*t - 9.8*(0.43)²/2

sy = -0.92m

we had to find how long it took the ball to reach the 18.3m mark, and calculate how far the ball dropped during that time, that being the distance traveled in the y direction. (initial velocity was 0 and acceleration was gravity's)
