A plane mirror reflects sunlight to form a bright patch on the wall but a
crushed aluminium foil gives a less bright patch. Can you explain why?

  • Now, a plane mirror is extremely smooth and not rough. So, the rays of the sunlight undergo regular reflection from the plane mirror to produce a bright patch on the wall.

  • However, crushed Aluminium foil is rough and undulating in appearance. Hence, light rays from the sun light undergo irregular reflection and get scattered in different directions. So a less bright patch is produced.
