A plastic scoop of mass 12g and density 0.6g/cc floats in water. How much mass is put inside the scoop to make it sink?

We know that,

Weight of displaced water = weight of schoop+ mass kept in the schoop.

Therefore, ΡwVg=Mg, Here M is the mass of the schoop + added mass=(12 +m)g,

Ρw= density of water =1gm/cc:,

ΡwVg = (12+m), So, 12+m =1xV………..

(i): V= volume of water displaced = volume of the scoop=12/ density=12/0.6 =20cc:  

So, m=20-12=8gm  

Therefore, 8 gm of weight to be place in scoop to sink in water is the answer.
