Once, he found out that the much-revered rishis Nara-narayana were meditating in the Himalayan forests, to distract them, Indra sent two beautiful apsaras to distract them. However, to show their powers, Nara-narayana struck their thigh and created a woman so beautiful, that the apsaras left in shame. This apsara created was named Urvashi meaning created from ur or thigh. Indra was suitably chastised, and Nara-narayana presented Urvashi to him as a friendly gesture after their meditation was over.
