impulse is effect of force for a short time.
from Newton's 2nd law
dp/dt = J(Impulse)
dp=J×dt
now integrating both sides with limits
[p2-p1]= J×[t2-t1]
del p=J×del t
J= delta p/delta t.
J is indirectly proportional to change in time means more the time less the impulse
i.e.,
a player lowers his hands while taking a catch to increase the change in time due to which impulse decrease means force decrease so chance for player to get injured becomes less.
