a point object is placed in front of a plane mirror as shown and moving with velocity 3 metre per second towards mirror. mirror is moving with speed 2 metres per second towards object then
1) speed of image with respect to ground
2)speed of image with respect to mirror
3)speed of image with respect to object
4)speed of mirror with respect to object
plzzz answer them correctly with solutions.

Given :

The velocity with which the point object is moving towards the plane  mirror :

= 3 m per sec

The velocity with which the plane  mirror is moving towards the object :

= 2 m per sec

To Find :

1). what is the speed of image w.r.t ground ?

2).what is the speed of image w.r.t mirror ?

3).what is the speed of image w.r.t. to object ?

4).what is the speed of mirror with respect to ground ?

Solution :

If the object moves towards the mirror by a distance 'x' image will move towards the object by distance x

( image distance = object distance )

∴Speed of object w.r.t to mirror = - ( speed of image w.r.t.  mirror )

And if mirror is displaced by 'x' towards object , the distance between object and mirror gets reduced by 'x' and image shifts by '2x'.

∴ Velocity of image w.r.t object  = 2 ( velocity of mirror w.r.t object )

Now , let :

v_i = speed of image

v_0 = speed of object

v_m = speed of mirror

So,

1). V_i  w.r.t ground =2V_m _+V_0

                         =2 \times 2 + 3n= 7 \frac{m}{s} (  in opposite direction of object )

2).V_i w.r.t mirror =7 - 2 = 5 \frac{m}{s} ( towards object )

3).V_i w.r.t object = 7 + 3 = 10 \frac{m}{s}  ( towards object )

4).V_m w.r.t object = 2 +3 = 5 \frac{m}{s} ( towards object )
