A portion of a 60 m long tree is broken by a tornado and the top struck up the ground making an angle of 30 degrees with the ground level. The height of the point where the tree is broken is equal to = ?

Length of broken part = 60m

angle = 30°

To Find:

height of the point where the tree is broken

Solution:

let the height of the point be 'x'

Here,

In Δ ABC

CB = x

AC = 60 - x

now,

sin Ф = P / H

⇒ sin 30° = x / 60 - x

⇒ 1 / 2 = x / 60 - x

⇒ 60 - x = 2x

⇒ 60 = 3x

⇒ x = 60 / 3

⇒ x = 20 m

So, the height is 20m.
