A positive number is 3 times another number. If 3 is added to the smaller number the difference
between new number and greater becomes 31. What are the numbers?​

Answer: smaller no.=14

greater no.=42

Let the positive number be x and the bigger be 3x

3x-x+3=31

2x=28

x=14

3x=42

check=

3x-x+3=31 substituting value of x

42 -14 +3=31

28+3=31

31=31
