Let another no.be x
A positive number is 5 times another no = 5x
If 21 is added to both the no .then one of the new no.become the twice the other new no.= x + 21 = 5x + 21
*6x =42
*x = 42 / 6 *
*x = 7.
x = 7
5x = 5×7
=35

Given:

  • A positive number is 5 times another number . If 21 is added to both the numbers , then one of the new number becomes twice the other new number

To find:

  • Required numbers ?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Solution:

Let the required numbers be x and 5x

According to the question,

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ 2 (x + 21) = 5x + 21

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ 2x + 42 = 5x + 21

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ 2x - 5x = 21 - 42

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ - 3x = - 21

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ 3x = 21

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➜ x = 21 / 3

⠀⠀

x = 7

Therefore,

  • First number = x = 7
  • Second number = 5x = 5 × 7 = 35
