Given info : A positive of +50μC charge is placed in an electric field 50,000 N/C directed in the upward direction.

To find : What mass should the charge have be remain suspended in air ?

solution : electrostatic force acts upwards and weight of body acts downwards. it means, weight of body balances the electrostatic force.

so weight of body = electrostatic force

⇒mg = qE

here g = 10 m/s² [ acceleration due to gravity] , q = 50μC and E = 50,000 N/C

∴ m × 10 = 50 × 10¯⁶ × 50000

⇒m = 25 × 10¯² kg = 250 g

Therefore the weight of body is 250g
