Answer:

Rs 4454

Step-by-step explanation:

Let V be the value of stone and W be the weight of stone.

V ∝ W²

=> V = KW².

The stone broke into 3 pieces in ratio  of 5:8:7 i.e 5/20 : 8/20:7/20

so total weight of stone =  20W (5 + 8 + 7 = 20)

Value of stone = Rs 6800

6800 = K(20W)²

KW² = 17.

Let V1, V2 and V3 be the value of each piece of stone and weight of each piece be 5W, 8W and 7W respectively.

V1 = K(5W)² = 25KW² = 25*17 = Rs 425

V2 = K(8W)² = 64KW² =  64 * 17 = Rs 1088

V3 = K(7W)² = 49KW² = 49 * 17  = 833.

Total value of broken pieces = 425 + 1088 + 833 = Rs 2346.

Loss of value = 6800 - 2346 = Rs 4454
