Given : a problem is given to three people P,Q,R whose respective chances of solving it are 2/7, 4/7, 4/9 respectively.

To Find : Probability that the problem will be solved.

Solution:

Probability  of solving by P  = 2/7

Probability  of not solving by P  =1- 2/7 = 5/7

Probability  of solving by Q  = 4/7

Probability  of not solving by Q  =1- 4/7 = 3/7

Probability  of solving by R  = 4/9

Probability  of not solving by R  =1- 4/9 = 5/9

probability that the problem will be solved  = 1 -  none of them solve

= 1  - (5/7)(3/7)(5/9)

= 1 - 75/441

= (441 - 75)/441

= 366/441

= 122/147

probability that the problem will be solved = 122/147
