A projectile is to be projected on an inclined plane of inclination 40 degree as shown in the figure . at what angle with the horizontal should the projectile be projected so that it'd range on inclined plane will be maximum?

The inclined plane of inclination 40°

To find,

Angle with the horizontal so that the range is maximum

Solution,

We can solve this numerical problem by using the following process.

We know that,

∴ Range = \frac{u^2sin2x}{g}

Thus,

For maximum range;

sin2x should be maximum.

⇒ sin2x = 1 (Maximum range)

⇒ 2x = 90°

x = 45°

As a result, the angle of projection with the horizontal for the range to be maximum is 45°.
