Tappa was originated from the folk songs of the camel riders of the locality of Punjab.
The tappa style of music was polished and introduced to the colonial court of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah, and later by Shori Mian Mian Ghulam or Nabi Shori, a courtyard singer of Nawab of Awadh Asaf-Ud-Dowlah.
