Given :- A publisher supplies 24 copies for every 20 copies ordered and also a cash discount of 5% what is the net value of discount ?

Solution :-

it has been given that, the publisher supplies 24 copies for every 20 copies .

so,

→ Extra copies given = 24 - 20 = 4 copies.

and,

→ Total copies the buyer received = 24

then,

→ Discount given = (Extra copies * 100) / (Total copies received)

→ Discount the buyer received in first case = (4 * 100) / 24 = (50/3) % .

Now, we have given that, cash discount of 5% is also given to the buyer .

and, we have to find the successive discount . we know that,

  • D = - A - B + (AB/100) { where A and B are individual discount.)

and, now we have values of both A and B which are :-

  • A = (50/3)
  • B = 5

Putting both values we get,

→ D = (-50/3) + (-5) + [{(-50/3) * (-5)}/100]

→ D = (-50 - 15)/3 + (250/300)

→ D = (-65/3) + (5/6)

→ D = (-65 * 2 + 5) / 6

→ D = (-130 + 5) / 6

→ D = (-125) / 6

→ D ≈ (-20.83)% .

here, Negative sign refers to discount .

Hence, we can conclude that, net value of discount was 20.83% .
