when more light enters in our eye the pupil gets smaller and in dark room our eye gets enlarge to enter as much as light as possible to enter the eye . pupil adjust its size according to the amount of light . when it is dark , the iris widens and the pupil dilates or gets bigger to allow the light . This role is important becoz our eye needs the correct amount of light to see properly. During day less light is required to see around us . At night, however, more light is usually needed to see things we might have seen easily during the day.

Answer:

In the dark, your pupils get bigger (dilate). That allows more light in, which improves night vision. That's why there's an adjustment period when you enter a dark room. It's also the reason your eyes are a bit sensitive after your eye doctor dilates them on a bright day.
