A question is asked in a class room, 'When GDP increases then welfare of
people also increases'. One group of students say 'yes' while other group of
students say 'no'. To which group will you support? Comment with reason.

i will support the other group which disagrees with the statement. this is because -

a) non - monetary exchanges are not recorded in the GDP

b) rate of population growth is not depicted in the GDP

c) there are externalities in the environment - positive and negative which are also not seen in the GDP

d) change in prices are also not shown in the GDP.
