A question paper has descriptive questions carrying 3 marks each and multiple choice

questions carrying 1 marks each . There are 24 questions in all carrying a total of 50

marks. Find the number of descriptive questions.​

Let the number of descriptive questions be x
Let the number of multi choice questions be y

x + y = 24 (total no of questions)
3x + y = 50 (total marks)

Subtraction of both equations give us:
3x - x = 50-24
2x = 26
x = 13

So the number of descriptive questions is 13
