ii) Minimum lateral displacement is observed in red due to longest wavelength

As we move from violet towards red in the visible spectrum VIBGYOR the wavelength gets longer, i.e. one oscillation or one cycle of the energy covers more distance as the ray is closer to red.

  • The refraction of the light in violet rays is more deviated because because it has shortest wavelength of the given light rays and hence it has more bending points inside the different medium. Where as yellow light bends lesser than violet light but red light having the longest wavelength bends the least.
