A railway truck of mass 5000 kg moving with a velocity of 3m/s collide with another truck of mass 3000kg at rest. during the collision the two get coupled together. determine the common velocity with which they move after collision?

We know that ,
Momentum before collision = Momentum after collision .
Since,
Momentum of one object = 5000×3
= 15000kg.m/s
Momentum of second object =
3000 × v
= 3000v , where v is the velocity of the object .
Now,
15000 = 3000v
=> 5 = v
Therefore the velocity after the collision = 5m/s.
