Hi there !!
Here's your answer

Let the rational numbers be x

When it is multiplied by 5/4 ,
the number will be

 \frac{5}{4} x =  \frac{5x}{4}

Also,
3/8 is subtracted from the product

Therefore,

 \frac{5x}{4}  -  \frac{3}{8}

The resultant number is 1/16

So,
the following balanced equation will be formed

 \frac{5x}{4}  -  \frac{3}{8}  =  \frac{1}{16}

 \frac{5x}{4}  =  \frac{1}{16}  +  \frac{3}{8}

 \frac{5x}{4}  =  \frac{7}{16}

5x(16) = 7(4)

80x = 28

x =  \frac{28}{80}

reducing the answer to it's simpliest form,
we have,

x = 7/20

Thus,
the number is 7/20
