A ray of light incident normally on a mirror retraces its path.why?

The angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence. If a ray has normal incidence, it is coming straight at the surface and will reflect straight back. Thus the reflected wave traces the exact path as the incident wave.

hey dear I think it is because mirror is a shiny surface and a shiny surface usually reflects back light coming on its surface
