A ray of light strikes a glass plate at an angle of 60°. If the reflected and refracted rays are perpendicular to each other, the index of refraction of glass is(a) \frac{1}{2}(b) \sqrt{\frac{3}{2}}(c) \frac{3}{2}(d) 1.732

The angle of reflection is 60 deg, same as angle of incidence. Given that the rays reflected and refracted are at 90 deg, the angle of refraction is 180 - (60 + 90) = 30 deg.

So refractive index = sin (incident angle) / sin (refracted angle) = sqrt (3) = 1.732
