REACTION

Metallic oxide are formed when metal reacts with Oxygen.

This results into metallic oxide which are basic in nature.

They turn red litmus into blue

Example:

2Mg + O2 ----> 2MgO

magnesium + oxygen ---> magnesium oxide

AS WE KNOW THAT METAL OXIDES ARE BASIC IN NATURE. THEY WILL CONVERT RED LITMUS TO BLUE.

Na + O2 -------> Na2O

Mg + O2 --------> MgO
