A. Read this passage.
'Scotty' was a clerk in one of our northern Indian trading stations. He had applied for a position with us in Inverness, Scotland, after which he travelled on land and water through many miles over many days to reach his new post. He landed one afternoon in August and introduced himself to the trader. He was very silent during the evening meal and left us immediately afterwards. Just as night was falling, a weird scream struck our ears even the heavy sleepers were startled out of their sleep. It came from somewhere in the woods and sounded like the wail of something inhuman. I thought of a strange night bird-a prowling wolf-a lonely Indian dog. Then it came again, this time louder, We rushed towards the sound, finally halting in front of a large spruce tree in a small clearing. We knew that the thing—whatever it was-was there. It had stopped wailing for a few seconds. We peered anxiously into the shadows. Suddenly, something moved in front of us. We held our breath. Then a small figure, which had been crouching at the foot of the tree, rose, and a avage burst of wild music rang out. It was 'Scotty', marching out of the darkness, blowing a huge bagpipe clasped in his arms. His face was purple: his eyes were half closed. Round and round he marched, unaware of anything around him. For a half-hour we listened to the little man. Not once did he stop. His homesick soul was singing through those shrieking pipes. Late into the night, after turning in, we still heard him--marching away with his bagpipe, playing The Campbells are coming.
