A rectangle 50 m by 30 m has 2 m wide paths joining the middle points of the opposite sides and also a path of the same breadth all round it. The remainder is covered with grass as show in the figure. Find the cost of laying out of court with grass at Rs. 25 per sq. m and paving the paths at Rs. 2 per sq. m. also, find the total cost.

length of rectangle
l = 50 m
b = 30 m

thus area of rectangle = 50 * 30
                      area = 1500 sq m
area of wide paths = 50*2 + 30*2 = 160 sq m

Thus area in which grass is laid = 1500 - 160
                                                   =  1340 sq m

thus according to question

Cost of laying out = 1340 * 25 = 33500 Rs

and Cost of paving = 1340 * 2 = 2680 Rs
Thus total cost = 33500 + 2680
                         = 36180 Rs

Solution :_

Length of rectangle = 50m

Breadth of rectangle = 30 m

Area of rectangle = L*B

= 50*30

= 1500 sq m

Area of paths = (50*2) + (30*2)

= 100 + 60

= 160 sq m

Area of the common portion in the middle = 2*2

= 4 sq m

Area of the paths = 160 - 4

= 156 sq m

Area of the portion in which grass is to be laid = 1500 sq m - 156 sq m

= 1344 sq m

Cost of laying the grass = Rs. 25 per sq m

= 1344*25

= Rs. 33600

Cost of paving the path = Rs. 2 per sq m

= 156*2

= Rs. 312

Total cost of laying grass and paving paths = Rs. 33600 + Rs. 312

= Rs. 33912
