A rectangle and a square have the same perimeter of 40m. If the length of the rectangle is 4m more than the side of the square, find its breadth.

perimeter of the square = perimeter of the rectangle

According to the question, the length of the rectangle is 4m more than the side of the square.

perimeter of the square = 40m
therefore 4 × side = 40m
>> side = 40/4
>> side = 10m

therefore length of the rectangle = 10 + 4 = 14m

perimeter of the rectangle = perimeter of the square

perimeter of the rectangle = 40m
>> 2 ( l + b ) = 40m
>> 14 + b = 40/2
>> 14 + b = 20
>> b = 20 - 14
>> b = 6m

hence, the breadth of the rectangle is 6m.
